A William IV rosewood fold over tea table, the top is supported on a swivel action over an octagonal column which is mounted on a pedestal base with scroll feet. English, c.1830.

An early Regency twin pedestal sideboard in flame mahogany with a bowed tablet frieze which is flanked by two dovetailed drawers and a lower cupboard to the left, and a single dovetailed drawer mounted with a wine holder and lower cupboard to the right. The central frieze is fitted with two long drawers, the upper mounted with a central bullseye very much in the Regency manner. All drawers are mounted with brass ringed lion mask pulls. The drawers and cupboard fronts are solid mahogany, the rest of the carcass being constructed from oak. This sideboard is very much in the manner of John Soane. English or Scottish, c.1800.

A fine and elegant Regency four poster mahogany bed. The high shaped tester or canopy with a well carved egg and dart band is supported by two simple posts to the rear and by a pair of tapering columns with acanthus carved detail to the front raised on sturdy bun feet. The brass curtain rails and headboard are later. Bedding not included. English, circa 1810.

Notes: Four poster beds date back to the late 14th century and often served as important status symbols. Frequently also called ‘tester beds', they had curtains to the front and sides to keep in the heat and keep out drafts and sunlight.

A 19th century carved walnut French cabinet. The moulded top above a frieze of alternating diamond and corbel carved detail, beneath which in the upper section are three cupboards whose doors open to reveal double shelving. Each door, with ornate scrolled brass escutcheons, is finely carved with classical motif panels and is separated by slim columns. Twin pairs of which flank either side.

A pair of wide ribbed drawers, with large brass handles, supported by a pair or sturdy, fluted columns, separate the upper section from a twin cupboard lower section the doors of which are beautifully carved with ornate strapwork designs. The doors open to single shelving and the whole cupboard is raised on large bun feet.

A fine early Victorian, rosewood library table in the manner of the architect and designer Richard Bridgens(1785-1846).

The finely figured top, with a moulded edge above a framed carved baton and disc frieze and square paterae on each corner, is edged beneath with linked rows of pierced roundels. The table is supported on ornately carved baluster legs with sturdy splayed feet raised on brass castors and linked by a turned stretcher.

A large Victorian fine mahogany breakfront bookcase and secretaire. The upper part has four compartments, the doors of which are glazed with their original plate glass revealing the adjustable shelving within, The doors themselves have ornate scrolls and leaf detail in the corners of the frames. The lower section divides into three parts. The central two door cupboard, bearing the same ornate scroll detail, is flanked by a pair of further plate glass glazed doors with ornate scroll detail.

Above the cupboard is a drawer like panel, with ebony inlaid pearl handles, which folds down to reveal the leather topped secretaire desk with six small drawers beneath a row of cubby holes.

A fine William IV mahogany library bookcase with a moulded cornice above three glazed doors. The left and right doors are hinged, the central door slides. The cabinet base also features a central sliding door flanked by a pair of hinged doors and is raised on a plinth base.

A large Baroque style, five panel painted leather screen with romantic, elysian scenes set in foreign lands in the manner of Jean Antoine Watteau 1684-1721. Each ecran, leaf painted with a gilt scroll reserved panel of figures in monochrome over profuse foliage with further land and seascape panels below.( Photo before restoration, cleaning and revival of paintings.

A large four panelled, embossed leather Spanish room screen screen in the Baroque manner. The leather panels are richly embossed with fruit, foliage & scrolls highlighted in gilt & polychrome reminiscent of the Damascene motifs.
Condition commensurate with age and use.
Spanish, 18th century.

The leather panels could be removed to make 8 attractive, matching wall decorations.

A tall carved mahogany glazed bookcase or collectors cabinet in the Robert Adam late Georgian manner. There is a blind fret carved design on the cornice over two full length astragal glazed doors, with Rams heads carved on the lower apron, supported on Adam style carved shell cabrioles over ball and claw carved feet. English, late 19th century.

The interior to be silk lined in a James Hare silk fabric.

A pair of William IV style mahogany armchairs. The deep-buttoned backs and stuffover seats upholstered in cherry red cowhide. The crinoline stretcher base connects the front turned legs to the splayed back legs all raised on brass castors. English, late 19th century.

A rare metamorphic, George III mahogany triple top table. This D shaped Georgian table folds out firstly as a tea table and then to a games table with 4 counter wells. The elegant leaves rest on tapered legs which terminate in pad feet. English, circa 1780.

An ornate four fold leather backed screen with painted panels held by leather bands and metal stud work. Each panel is painted in the Baroque manner with depictions of birds, vines and flowers within decorative borders. The panels are almost certainly 19th century or earlier and have been re-lined and mounted on the later screen which is backed with leather panels.
19th century, possibly Italian or Spanish.

A small and compact, late Georgian mahogany gentleman's dressing or toilet chest of drawers. Oak lined and cross banded on the front, the top lifts to reveal a slide mirror and various lidded and open compartments for dress accessories. The handles are 19th century in the 18th century Sheraton manner. English late 18th century.

A grand, golden oak Gothic Revival buffet attributed to the designer Charles Bevan for C. Hindley and Sons, 19th century London furniture dealers. The mirrored galleried back, topped by pineapple finials, sits above a deep shelf supported on quatrefoil pierced brackets under which is a wide worktop. The triple doors beneath open to reveal a double shelved cupboard and a racked storage area. C. Hindley & Sons, 134, Oxford Street, London is stamped on the back. English, circa 1870.

Notes:
Charles Bevan (1820s-1882) was an English Gothic Revival designer. The patterns of his designs defined him as a master craftsman in the Geometric style. He worked with a number of furniture manufacturers and designers, including Gillows, J. P. Seddon & Hindley & Sons and exhibited at the Paris Exposition of 1867.

Charles A Hindley & Son cabinet makers and furniture dealers, were established in 1773 at 31 to 32 Berners Street later moving in 1844 to 134, Oxford Street, London. The firm existed until 1916 when it was absorbed into Marshall and Snelgrove.

An antique walnut Victorian canterbury with a single drawer and bobbin turned spindles. Four small knopped finials surmount the burr walnut top rail and the whole is supported on turned legs with their original brass and porcelain cup castors. English, circa 1850.

An impressive and large baptismal font entirely carved from Ashburton Marble. This is a soft grey and blush pink, lightly veined marble with evidence of fossil remains of creatures, principally corals, crinoids and brachiopods, that lived in the Devonian Sea 360-380 million years ago, It was quarried in Devon in the west of England mainly during the 19th century. The deep, round font bowl sits on a sturdy circular column and is further supported by four tall Ashburton and Swedish Green Marble pillars. The whole font rests on it's original, octagonal stone base. English, late 19th century.

Notes: Ashburton Marble is more accurately a form of limestone and not a true marble but was described as such as it was capable of taking a high polish resembling marble. It was brought to prominence in the Victorian era. In 1852 a Devon newspaper 'The Western Times', reported that some large blocks of marble had been excavated from quarries adjoining the ancient Stannary Town of Ashburton. It was suggested at the time that the marble be used for the making of chimneypieces as the veins and colour were considered very decorative and superior to that found in any other quarry in South Devon. It featured in many of of the great houses, buildings and churches throughout the country including Salisbury Cathedral. This marble was still being quarried at the Linhay Quarry into the late 20th century.

THE EMPEROR'S BED

A grand and impressive, large and rare Portuguese emperor-sized mahogany bed carved from copper hued Honuduras mahogany. The head and the foot are of the same height and each is centred by a large stylised, gadrooned urn festooned with bellflowers and flanked by two smaller urns flanked by pairs of tall decorative spindles. All are carved on both sides.

The scrolled and leaf carved top bars are surmounted by carved lattice work panels. The bed is supported on four sturdy cabriole legs resting on lion paw and ball feet. It is held together by four massive threaded bolts operated by a key.

An octagonal Arts & Crafts antique oak font with a fine inset silvered bowl covered by a lid and a deeply carved acanthus, rosette and vine frieze set above eight arcaded panels, supported on a column resting on a spreading ogee base. One of the panels bears a commemorative plaque the dedication of which says:
" To the Glory of God. This font was gifted to Newington United Free Church, Edinburgh by Miss Alison Telford on the 16th January 1924, her eightieth birthday. She was the first girl baptised in this church 1844 ".
Scottish, early 20th century.

Notes: The Queen’s Hall has been at the heart of music making in Edinburgh since 1979 when, after a public appeal, the Church of Newington and St Leonards was bought and converted into a 900 seat concert hall . Since then it has become known internationally as the setting for the much loved Edinburgh International Festival Morning Concerts and an ideal space for chamber music.

A very decorative and unusual Arts & Crafts antique oak pedestal. The moulded square top is set above four carved panelled sides raised on a moulded plinth base. Each panel has a medieval figure carved in high relief representing the four seasons of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
Provenance: Originally from Ravensby Hall in Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland.
Circa 1900.

Notes: Ravensby Hall, with its turrets, bays, and gables built in the 1870s for The Thomson family of Dundee, is an elegant country house incorporating both Gothic and Scottish Baronial styles. The Thomson family had acquired their wealth through the 19th century, initially in shipping, and then later by expanding into publishing, buying the Dundee Courier in 1886. Ravensby Hall was intended as their country retreat, befitting a family of their status in Scottish society.

A fine and slender carved wood and applied gesso jardiniere with a mirrored top and delicately carved figures of the Three Graces. Their arms are linked around the foliate decorated column which is supported on a tripod of large carved scrolled feet.
