A well modelled majolica stand with a brown glaze. Art Nouveau foliate motifs appear to the main body of the stand, female masks to the bulbous centre and curled lion mask feet at the base.
Originally a jardiniere stand but would also be excellent as a display stand.

A very elegant Regency pine and gesso chimneypiece decorated in the Adam style. The inverted breakfront shelf is decorated with a beaded cornice and sits above an elegant frieze decorated with opposing gryphons holding ribbons of bellflowers in their beaks, centred by urns on stands. The tablet is more naturalistic, with Venus and attendants depicted in a pastoral landscape. The slender endblocks are decorated with classical urns on stands, and rest above the gently fluted pilaster jambs.

A vibrant Ashfar carpet on a deep blue ground, the central red medallion remiscent of an animals' hide.
Iranian, mid 20th century.

Notes: Ashfar carpets are typified by a red and blue colour tones and mostly geometrical patterns. The most common pattern contains a large center piece with one or more squared medallions, some say that this symbolizes a hide stretched for preparation.

A superb Victorian walnut and solid ebony Gothic library table. This outstanding table is made especially rare by having solid ebony legs, stretcher and finials. The beautifully carved Solomonic legs and stretcher support a fine burr walnut top.

This table is incredibly diverse, and can be used as a centre table, or even a desk.

A rare and perfectly detailed live steam scale model of a rotative vertical reciprocating beam engine with James Watt type parallel motion linkage. This hand-built engine has been made from burnished steel, cast iron and bronze, which has developed a good patina from over a century of enjoyment. It also retains its original paint and comes with its original carrying case. The single Mahogany clad double action, low pressure cylinder has a stroke of 2 5/8 inches and a bore of 1 1/8 of an inch, the piston produces power on both the upward and downward strokes. The fly wheel measures 11 inches in diameter and the beam, pivoting on a single bronze column, measures 8 1/4 inches. This engine was built between 1865 and 1870, most probably as an apprentice piece, or for demonstrating the workings of this type of engine. It is mounted on a Mahogany plinth with a brass plate with the inscription “MADE BY ROBERT GILCHRIST OF BERWICK ON TWEED 1865 1870”

Scottish engineer, James Watt invented His parallel motion mechanical linkage for the double acting Watt steam engine in 1784. In a letter to his son written in 1808 James Watt wrote “I am more proud of the parallel motion than of any other invention I have ever made”. Watts' new double acting engines were powered by steam on both the upward and downward strokes, along with his parallel motion, these engines were much more efficient than previous engines built by Thomas Newcomen and Watt.

A set of four framed 18th century copper-engravings of exotic birds with original hand colour. This set comprises three engravings from George Edwards', Gleanings of Natural History Containing Figures of Quadrupeds, Birds, Insects, Plants, published by G. Sidney for George Edwards, London, 1758-1764. One engraving from Francois Nicholas Martinet's engraving from the Comte de Buffon's superb work, the Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux, published in Paris from 1770 to 1786. These are two of the most important ornithological publications of the 18th century, Darwin being a great admirer of both.

A fine late 19th century framed oil on canvas by Joseph Horlor (British, 1809-1887). The pastoral scene depicts fishfolk with their boats moored and their meagre catch in wicker baskets. They work under the looming ruin of a castle, a romantic vision of crumbling turrets built in to the rocky crag. In the distance there is a glimpse of a village nestled in the trees, completing the vision of a pastoral idyll. Scenes of this type were immensely popular in 19th century Britain, as they both conveyed the romance of the British countryside and the moral virtue of manual labour. This scene was possibly set in Wales, where Horlor found the landscape immensely inspiring .

Signed and dated 1836. Framed in 19th century gilt frame. In fine condition, professionally relined recently.

Notes: Not a great deal is known about Joseph Horlor, but he exhibited from 1834-1866 at the British Institute and Suffolk Street (Later to become the Royal Society of British Artists) in London. He lived in Bristol and Bath and specialised in landscapes, coastal scenes and seascape subjects, mainly painting in Wales, Devon and Cornwall. There are 8 paintings by Horlor in the British National Art Collection, predominantly in Bristol.

An elegant Victorian arched fireplace carved from white statuary marble. The simply moulded shelf is supported by tapered pilaster jambs decorated with trailing foliage, which is echoed on the panelled spandrels which frame the arch. The endblocks are decorated with roses carved in high relief, as is the cluster of oak leaves and acorns crowning the arch.

A large and grand French chandelier in the Louis XVI style, with two tiers of sixteen arms mounted on a bulbous central stem which is profusely decorated with cast foliate decoration. The patinated gilt bronze finish gives this chandelier a subtle lustre that glows when illuminated.

A pair of 18th century Dutch Delft Faience blue and white vases of octagonal baluster form the covers with scrolling foliate finials. They are very finely painted in cobalt blue. The front panels decorated with peonies and willow trees within scrollwork cartouches the back panels with leaf sprigs on a white background. There are makers mark and initials to the base of each vase. Dutch, circa 1764-70.

A High Victorian tiled register grate with a decorative hood above the grate, which still features its original ash pan. The handpainted tiles are neoclassical in design, with the exception of the narrower tiles, which feature a very convincing faux-tortoiseshell design. English, c.1890.

A fine oak longcase clock by Philip Avenell of Farnham with later lacquered chinoiserie decoration. The eight day movement strikes the hours on a clear bell. The clock face has a 12 inch brass break arched brass dial flanked by ornate gilt brass spandrels. The raised silvered chapter ring is crisply engraved with black Roman numerals and Arabic five minute numerals to the outer aspect. The central dial has a subsidiary seconds dial, a date aperture and is profusely engraved with floral decoration. The maker's signature is signed within a cartouche. The chinoiserie decoration was likely added in the early twentieth-century. English, c.1780

Notes: Philip Avenell was part of a 200 year dynasty of clockmakers based in the South of England. Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ by Brian Loomes records Phillip Avenell as working in London circa 1765 then in Farnham from circa 1775, roughly when this clock was made. Philip Avenell died in 1809.

A Sarouk (Sarough) carpet, with a central rosette surrounded by a scrolling floral design and a floral border. There is minimal fading and the carpet is in good condition. The carpet is not overly large, so could be accommodated in most rooms. Iranian, c.1950

Notes: Sarouk rugs are known for their quality and durable nature, woven from soft wool. They are woven in Arak, North West Iran. The dyes used, are dark and light blue, pink and red. This restrained palette makes them particularly sought after today.

A large and decorative Heriz Persian Carpet with an intricate design. Heriz, now in North West Iran, is renowned for fine carpets, where they were often made on looms attached to the side of houses, where 3 or 4 people would work on the same carpet at the same time. Heriz rugs are both durable and hard wearing and it is said that they incorporate woven images relating to old folk tales.

A decorative Afshar Persian carpet of relatively small proportions, the diamond shape central medallion framed by a golden border, echoed by similar tones throughout the floral decorative scheme. Iranian, c.1950.

The semi-nomadic Ashfar tribe originated in North-West Iran, but are now located in the South-East of the country.

A simple and elegant St Anne marble corbel fireplace. The softly grey hued St Anne marble is gently veined and displayed to great effect on the plain shelf and jambs. The undulating corbels support a broad moulded shelf. Its' simplicity is enhanced by small bands of Belgian black marble above the corbels and footblocks, an unusual detail.

An early Regency twin pedestal sideboard in flame mahogany with a bowed tablet frieze which is flanked by two dovetailed drawers and a lower cupboard to the left, and a single dovetailed drawer mounted with a wine holder and lower cupboard to the right. The central frieze is fitted with two long drawers, the upper mounted with a central bullseye very much in the Regency manner. All drawers are mounted with brass ringed lion mask pulls. The drawers and cupboard fronts are solid mahogany, the rest of the carcass being constructed from oak. This sideboard is very much in the manner of John Soane. English or Scottish, c.1800.

A large and ornate French 24 branch gilt brass chandelier. This chandelier embodies the Rococo style, its naturalistic form fashioned from entwined leaves and vines festooned with bunches of grapes. French, early 20th century.

A fine and elegant Regency four poster mahogany bed. The high shaped tester or canopy with a well carved egg and dart band is supported by two simple posts to the rear and by a pair of tapering columns with acanthus carved detail to the front raised on sturdy bun feet. The brass curtain rails and headboard are later. Bedding not included. English, circa 1810.

Notes: Four poster beds date back to the late 14th century and often served as important status symbols. Frequently also called ‘tester beds', they had curtains to the front and sides to keep in the heat and keep out drafts and sunlight.

A set of three large French ormolu wall lights. These sconces are an unusual design, taking on Bacchic symbolism, with ribbons suspending coiled snakes, from which hang the three arms, adorned with swags of vines. Beneath, the mask of a satyr and his instruments, the pan pipes and a tambourine hang. French, c.1900.

An important piece of London's dockland history. This large bell was originally cast in 1737 for The East India Company. The cast inscription reads " R.P. 1737 THE HONARABLE EAST INDIA COMPANYS BELL AT THEIR CHAPEL IN POPLAR." and on the reverse "RECAST 1966 MEARS LONDON.

A rare and monumental cast iron Coalbrookdale antique fire grate identical to fire grate SNo 14374. The elaborately scrolled backplate featues a Bagot Goat jumping a fence. The substantial basket, with a strapwork apron centred by a lion mask, is supported by a pair of large and powerful panther head standards.

Provenance: The registration mark 65 The Coalbrookdale Company registered September 6th 1841 number 814 can clearly be seen on the back.
English, early to mid 19th century.

Notes: The Bagot goat is believed to be Britain's oldest breed of goat and has lived semi-wild at Blithfield Hall in Staffordshire for over six hundred years.The Coalbrookdale Company, a foundry in Shropshire established in 1709, is probably most famous for building the world's first cast iron bridge erected and opened at Ironbridge in 1780, but it was also noted for its decorative ironwork an example of which is a set of gates opening into London's Hyde Park. The blast furnaces were closed down around 1820 but the foundries remained in use.

Please note that the back plate was once broken the damage can be seen under the goat. It has been strapped on the back, so the grate is still functional.
