A rare George I English Fireplace Mantel in white statuary marble. This is an original early period chimneypiece elegantly proportioned and carved from the solid in three elements in the Baroque manner of the Lombardy region of Italy. The shelf is carved with a neat moulding from a single block integral with the delicately panelled frieze which is centred with a typical asymmetric central stylised floral cartouche, flanked by further smaller floral motifs on the upper jamb panels, also carved from the solid.
English early 18th century circa 1720.
