An interesting Roman themed cast iron fire side fender with integral tool rests. The serpentine curb bar has a central beaded roundel featuring the head of Caesar in profile flanked by trailing floral and acanthus foliate mounts. It is accompanied by a pair of unusual tool rests in the form of Roman Gods. One of Venus holding a conch and a mirror, the other of Mars holding a war club. Each is rising from ornate acanthus mounts before the scrolling tool rest bars.
English, with the diamond registration mark for 1856.

Fire fenders are the perfect tool to ensure that any rolling logs or fuel can’t leave the hearth, keeping the fire safely contained and your floor safe from damage! Fire Fenders were also made to be beautiful, as they sit within the main focal point of a room. Brass fenders suit a period interior well and are best paired with other brass fire accessories. Brass fireplace fenders were very popular in the Victorian era and were often pierced and finely engraved with floral motifs. In the Georgian era, steel fenders were popular and neoclassical in style. Unlike the Victorian fireplace fenders they were simpler and more delicate in design.
