A large and imposing Georgian Adam style Fireplace boldly carved in a rich dark Cuban Mahogany, the colour of rum. The moulded shelf with bead and reel and egg and dart borders, rests above a double fluted frieze centred by a carved tablet of fronds and ribbons. The fireplace opening is framed by an egg and dart border. Removed from a central London mansion block. Photo before revival of polish. English, late 19th century.
