A graceful Louis XVI lightly veined Statuary Marble fire surround. The frieze, centred by a charming oval ormolu plaque with a depiction of cherub musicians, is flanked by inset panels with scrolling ormolu foliage. Applied ormolu wreaths adorn the endblocks set above tapering console jambs with a chain of descending ormolu beading and panels of patterned vents are set into the side returns. French, circa 1780.
