An attractive Edwardian cast iron, steel and brass mounted firegrate in the George III style, made by Thomas Elsley of London. The arched backplate, set with a scrolled shield surrounded by trailing floral foliage and ribbons, bears the name ELSLEY and the date 1904 within an oval reserve to the back. The three bar bow fronted grate, with rocaille cast brass spandrels, a pair of small brass finials and a pierced brass serpentine apron with incised foliate and zoomorphic motifs, is supported by a pair of charming columned legs topped by globe finials.
